A short impression of two great days of volunteering as an architectural teacher to schoolchildren. Hosted by IMC Weekendschool, in this case @WeekendschoolAW, we visited architectural firms like MVSA, thanks to Gertjan Nijhof.
IMC Weekendschool offers children from a less privileged background an opportunity to learn from various professionals. During four Sunday-afternoons these secondary schoolchildren learn what it means to be a doctor, a lawyer, an architect, etc. I was lucky enough to teach kids from my old Baarsjes neighbourhood in Amsterdam how to think as an architect. In two sessions, of the total of four, groups of four children were asked to design, draw, build and present their ideas for a their dream family house.
