Museumkwartier

After years of reforms the three major museums of Amsterdam are again fully operational. The Rijksmuseum was extended by Cruz & Ortiz, the Stedelijk Museum by Benthem Crouwel and the Van Gogh Museum was enlarged by Kisho Kurokawa and Hans van Heeswijk. All three museums are now showcasing varying approaches to museum design and they all have been reoriented with their new main entrances towards the Museumplein. A latest addition to this quarter is the Chanel flagship store by MVRDV. Located in Amsterdam’s most expensive shopping street, it highlights a innovative translucent façade built up from solid glass bricks.
